18 seconds

British biologists plan to study an Alpine cricket that is capable of copulating every 18 seconds, reports The Daily Telegraph. "Males seem to be highly unselective when it comes to mating," says Dr. Karim Vahed. "Anonconotus alpinus will leap on anything, even other males." After inserting a package of sperm the male gives a triumphant series of short trills before seeking a new conquest. Dr. Vahed hopes to discover whether the females use the song to identify which species they've just mated with.
